Segments are going in action

Okay, the decision has been made. On Sundays we'll make a post about science, Wednesday will be politics and technology, then Fridays will be for debates on history. We'll be starting this on Sunday the 16th.

We will also continue our posts on politics in general whenever we find something interesting either on the news or not on the news. These posts will not be as regulated as the others are but we will try to post these regularly as well.

Keep your eye out on Sunday for our post on science!

Segments

Alright, since nobody commented here or on our Facebook page, Jake and myself are going to talk later tonight on what segments we're going to do. What we're going to call them, when we'll post for them, etc.  I'll update you guys on the news tomorrow or maybe late tonight.

What do you want to read here?

Hey guys, Myles here.  Sorry that we haven't been posting lately, school work has been consuming our time, but I'm going to make an effort to start segments here where we focus on one thing every day.  Some of the ideas we have for these are science, attempting to start debates on things from the past (ie: who was the most influential man in the creation of America as we know it), current political disputes, and possibly stupid people in the news.  These are just some of the things that I have come up with, but I am entirely open to hear what you guys want these segments to be on so if you especially like one of those or have a suggestion for a segment put it in the comments and we'll take it into consideration.

On a side note, please be as active in the comments as possible.  We post here with the intent to start conversations/debates on various topics and we cannot do so without the help of you guys.  It'd be incredibly appreciated if you put at least one comment on our posts saying what you think or countering  our opinion.  All and any support is helpful.

Thats all for now, I'll check back in tomorrow with some news on the segments I'd like to start here.

Presidential Debate

I'd like to open things up with saying I'm not a fan of either of the candidates, but Romney truly did put on quite the show.  He pretty much ruled the debate for the first part of it, literally he just stretched out his answer to every question to an unnecessary extent.  But he did a damn good job at it a couple times and literally ran circles around Obama's current policies pointing out all the flaws.  One error that Romney made that I'd like to point out is that the Constitution does not in fact include or mention God.  However other than that, as much as I hate to say it, Romney really did bring in some heavy hitting points to the debate.
However, a little past half way in Obama came back and really just started bringing up point after point, making himself look a lot better than he did when Romney was on his tangents.  Obama started really bringing in some heat in return to Romney's earlier doing so.  However this only lasted so long because once the topic of school came around it was back to back rebuttal but it appears to me that Romney really won it with his statements on Massachusetts having the number one schools in the country.
In the closing statement, Obama really just pushed a super pro-American point of view saying that if reelected that he would help make the change he was unable to make in his first four years. Romney really had more of an arrogant aire to his closing statement pretty much saying "my policies are without doubt superior to President Obama's."
Overall, the debate, in my opinion, went to Romney.  The people on abc speaking on it afterwards called it a draw going in favor to Obama but I have to disagree.  While Romney did do most of the talking at first there were a few things Obama said that really played in his favor.  Romney's statements on healthcare/medicare really just solidified his victory here.  He really gained some points for the voters who haven't decided yet.  But hey thats just me, post in the comments below how you feel about the debate!

The Piratebay

I just heard about the incarceration of Gottfrid Svartholm, the co-founder of the Piratebay, in Sweden.  Any thoughts on it? Could it become the next MegaUpload?  Is there really any large issue with pirating?  Comment below with your opinions!

Spain Revolution

Myles here, and like I said on the Facebook page I've been doing some research on the Spanish protests and riots that have been going on for over a year now.  Now from a basic standpoint it looks like your normal attempt for a revolution, similar to what went on in Egypt in 2011, so you might think "Oh what ever its just people fighting for their human rights."  I'm going to ask you to look beyond that though, because once you actually read up on it you realize that it started over a year ago.  There has to be something more to it with such an extensive time span that it occupies.
Now theres a few things they're fighting for.  It sounds like they're unhappy with welfare cuts and politicians, pretty average things to protest about.  Of course, however, theres no such thing as a revolt without some good old fashioned police brutality to really keep things going, this always gets more attention but always worsens the problem at hand (which governments have surprisingly yet to figure out).  Now, it may just be me, but after over a year I find it incomprehensible as to why or how the government hasn't just collapsed under pressure yet.  If any of you guys have the answer I'm intrigued to know.  Any opinions or key points that I'm missing, write them in the comments below.  Also, if you live in Spain, I would absolutely love to hear your perspective on it, post it in Spanish if you need to I speak the language so it won't be a problem.

California ban on 'gay to straight therapy'

How's it going nerds, Jake signing on here. Gay rights is one of the hot button issues going on in today's America. Me being a supporter of gay rights, I found this story particularly interesting. Apparently some therapists were trying to train gay individuals into being straight. I'm very proud of California governor Jerry Brown for banning this cruel malpractice. It's apparent to me that these therapists had a serious side agenda, whether it be a hate of gays, a love of teenage suicide (it's sadly more common among therapists than some may think), or perhaps even supported in Washington. Regardless, I believe some blame may fall on the parents of these tragic cases os teenage suicide brought on by the heinous practice of telling someone they are not supposed to be the way they are and they need to change to conform with what is accepted. To me, this is as ridiculous as telling someone who is black that they have to attend 'black to white therapy'. But maybe there's something I'm missing here, what do you guys think? Was Jerry Brown doing good by banning this practice, or is this just big brother butting in again? Leave your thoughts below, and for now, this is Jake at Nerds Anonymous signing off.

Presidential candidates on various science issues

How's it going nerds. To tie in with my fellow contributor's post about Obama and Romney's policies, I thought I'd provide some of their thoughts regarding some issues that hit me hard personally, and that is how they view certain questions our government is faced with that have to do with science. I'll provide the link to the article, but to put it concisely for you guys; Obama plans on pulling money out of nowhere so that he doesn't lose supporters for outright saying 'In order to fund these advancements with government money my administration will have to tax the people.' Whereas Romney is at least willing to say he will have to raise taxes, but at the same time neither of them seems to have a clear plan or message regarding these issues. Their responses all ring of political babble and attempting to gain as many followers from as many demographics as possible (which should come as a surprise to no one). All in all, those of us that are looking to technological advances being the future of this country, don't hold your breath with these two candidates. Will we ever have a president who pushes space exploration and alternative energy sources? I don't think so, but I'd love to hear the opinions you guys have. Leave your comments below and share your thoughts.

Obama vs. Romney

What's up nerds, Myles here for some quick politics.  Today I'm just gonna shoot out a few things about the 2012 election candidates Barrack Obama and Mitt Romney.  Now, I've heard a few interesting statements about both that I just want to open this up with:  "Romney is almost making us vote for Obama"  "Do you really want a rich snob running the country to lower his taxes while increasing everyone else's?"  "Obama demonstrated how well he can handle the economy in his last four years in office, do you really want to see what he can do with another four years?" "The Obamacare policy sounds good on paper, but in practice it would just crash terribly."
Now that that's been said let me just say a few words of my own.  Personally I think they both have some pretty big flaws in their attempts to gain your vote.  Let's start with Obamacare.  As stated above, it sounds pretty damn good on paper but once you start it then what happens?  Canada has a health care system similar to it and look at what happens to them, if they need surgery they have to wait or they can come to America and hope for the best.  Also, it would slowly decay the jobs of healthcare workers.  Now onto Romney.  I found his statement addressing that "47% of Americans pay no income tax and take no personal responsibility for their lives" to be incredibly ignorant.  I'm sure that it wasn't completely thought through which then leaves huge gaps in the argument. There are certain groups that just cannot pay income taxes (including the disabled, military, the teen making minimum wage at McDonalds, and the working families that impoverished).  Also, once you take a closer look at his policies you really do see that it would in fact lower the taxes of the rich, (like himself), now doesn't that seem a little unethical for a president?
Well, I'll leave this open to you fine users of the internet now.  American or not, we'd love to hear your opinions on the topic.

Also, I'm sorry for the huge hiatus I took from this blog.  I've just been really busy lately but I'm going to start trying to get in a post about something going on in the world.  Much love to all the nerds who help support this blog though, means a lot to me!

Don't sit and Watch

It is your time.  Your time to act.  The people are stronger than all and any whom control them.  When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty. ~ Thomas Jefferson

You cannot stop an Idea.  Fight for what is right in this world.  Anybody has what it takes to make the change happen.  If you do not see the wrongs the governments of the world are committing then sit and let everything pass you by without paying attention.  If you do see it the I invite you to fight against it.  In a peaceful way that will aware them that we are here, and we know what they are doing.

I leave on this note: "The corrupt fear us.  The honest support us.  The heroic join us."
