Last Night's Republican Presidential Debate overview

The first thing that you noticed as watching was probably that it was centered on Romney and Gingrich whilst ignoring Paul and Santorum.  A majority of the questions were for those two and they were barely answered, they would simply go back and forth arguing the topic and their position.  One thing I found admirable to some extent was that at one point Ron Paul raised his hand stating that he would like be part of the discussions as well, and when ever questions were given to him he gave straight forward answers that I thought were very well put together.  During this Sanctorum was unable to do the same, when questions were shot his way you were able to see the worry lines on his head and that he was not really ready to answer.
What I found very interesting, however, is that no questions were asked as far as the candidates opinion on SOPA.  Due to the large scene created in America (with reasonable cause) I expected that to be at least a quick question they would ask.

What about ACTA?

Now that SOPA and PIPA are "dead" many Americans are simply forgetting their occurrence and assuming all is well.  However, they are forgetting the big brother of those two laws, ACTA. This treaty would be effective on any nation that signs and agrees to it.  Now I refer to it as SOPA's big brother because it would form a coalition of the internet that would "make amendment, for which public or judicial review are not required."  So unless my fellow admin and I have read this wrong, they will be able to accuse you of some violation under the treaty and put you in whatever they feel is the deserving punishment.

Surveying the Battlefront

So today in order to check out the status of megaupload, a website recently taken down by the FBI due to possession of copyrighted material, I attempted to visit the aforementioned website. I was curious to see if the government had gone back on their decision to take the site down. This is a screenshot of exactly what happened as soon as I typed in megaupload.com.

So I was doing a little more research when I came across this video of man named Mike Mozart who puts everything in very simple terms.  Also his research agrees with most of mine previously stated in the last post.  He even has several examples of the FBI incarcerating people who have barely used pirate music, movies, etc and putting some of their families in debt for years!

Does the FBI need SOPA or PIPA to act?

As I'm sure many of you know the popular website, MegaUpload, was shut down two days ago with out any use of SOPA or PIPA.  It was just the FBI saying "we'll fight online piracy without those laws." This is a big problem because they are getting anyone and everyone who has ever remotely been connected with online piracy. Now that they technically own MegaUpload (even though the site is down) they have the IP Address and other information of anyone who has either downloaded or uploaded content.  If I'm correct the fee for infringement of one item is around $150,000 in US currency.  So if you've download around 5 to 8 videos from MegaUpload or a site like that, you now owe the US Government any where from $750,00 to $1,200,000.  This is ludicrous.  Also, I'm not completely sure just yet, but I believe that if you own one of these sites and are not an American citizen they are still going to try and attack you.    

Are SOPA and PIPA "dead"?

I was just looking around the internet and came across a page saying that Lamar Smith (author and main supporter of SOPA) said he is "pulling the bill 'until there is wider agreement on solution.'"  So the bill has been stopped for now, but he makes it clear that he wants to bring it back into play at some point.  However, he is not part of the senate, so if I'm correct this does not stop PIPA from taking action.  EDIT: I apologize for not going into deeper research before originally posting this but I just found another article speaking on the closing of PIPA. The 40 supporters of it all backed out, not too long after the group Anonymous hacked the FBI's website. Makes you wonder, did they get scared?

My Reaction to SOPA and PIPA

These two acts completely infringe the rights of Americans under the Constitution.  Unlike my fellow contributor, I do not believe any sort of violent revolt resulting in a sum of citizens either being injured or dead is needed.  I feel the need for a more unorthodox approach to the situation.  That is, fighting back. The rebellion of web users would be even more effective.  If the very people they are trying to stop just drop off the face of the internet then they have almost nothing to do with the actions.  There is a way to get around everything and anything on the internet and groups like Anonymous will do just that and re-liberate the American internet users.

My reaction to SOPA and PIPA

SOPA and PIPA are entirely unconstitutional and simply unfair to the people of the USA. This is an infringement on the people's rights, and we must all raise our voices to the government officials that if these unjust laws pass, the people will take action. Remember those revolutions going on in the Middle Eastern countries last year? The American government doesn't. They do not realize the lengths that some of their own citizens will go to for the freedom they deserve.

If SOPA and PIPA pass...

If these laws pass most of the websites that you guys may go on will be shut down instantly.  Knowledge is the key to life. Inform yourself.
